Dr. J Butler & Family
Dr. David Delahay & Family

DJ's Cattle Company is located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and operated on 600 acres of owned and leased land. DJC was started in January of 1996. Dr. Butler was attending the National Western and decided he needed a show heifer. Dr. J, through mutual friend Scott Manley, was introduced to Jirl Buck, owner of Buck Cattle Company. Dr. J and Jirl purchased half interest in Countess 600F and the following day she was selected as the 1997 National Champion Female. The partnership between Buck and Dr. J grew to several successful donor females that won or raised champion females at Denver, Kansas City, Louisville, Fort Worth, and some very successful herd sires such as BKDJ Landmark.

It was not until the summer of 2002 that Dr. J purchased the place where DJ's Cattle Company currently operates. In the spring of 2003, he hred Brett Carter to manage DJ's Cattle Company. Dr. J and Brett both had similar ideas of raising Maine-Anjou cattle. The initial purchase of 40 commercial Angus cows from Buck Cattle Co. was made. These commercial Angus cows were all bred to BKDJ Backdraft. The following two years, DJC bred these Angus females to maternal influenced purebred Maine-Anjou bulls to produce half bloods (Mainetainers).

After building a base herd of about 30 half bloods, we purchased a small set of 3/4 to purebred females from Buck Cattle Company's spring and fall production sales each year to add to our genetic base. We started small and are growing with the motto "Quality over Quantity" utilizing the best bulls available for AI and ET work.

In the spring of 2007, Dr. J and Brett sold 1/2 interest in DJ's Cattle Company to Drs. David and Amanda Delahay of Republic, Missouri. David saw the demand for Maine-Anjou cattle and felt like he wanted to get involved in a young and growing business. We run approximately 150 cows here in Bartlesville, 80 head are half to purebred Maines, Simmy x Angus, and a select few crossbreds. The other 70 head are recipes used for our embryo production.

We feel like the Maine-Anjou business is very versatile. The cows milk good, have excellence dispositions, and are easy keepers. Our motto here at DJC has always and will always be the same, "MODERATE, EFFICIENT, AND GOOD LOOKIN'", and we are committed to producing that type of cattle. Just recently, we added an extremely good set of simmy x angus females (Meyer 734 Granddaughters) to our base to produce steers.

We offer cattle for sale year round. Our spring born calves are sold private treaty starting the second week of May and our fall born calves will be available for viewing the first week of February. In addition, we will continue to send cattle to the Buck Cattle Co. fall and spring production sales, Denver National Western Sale, and will exhibit cattle at most national show including the National Western. Groups of replacement females and bulls are available year round.
